Job Summary:
The Television Lighting Technician will be responsible for ensuring the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of lighting equipment in a television broadcasting environment. This role requires a skilled and experienced professional who can effectively collaborate with the production team to achieve high-quality lighting setups for television broadcasts.
Responsibilities:
- Set up lighting equipment, including fixtures, controls, and cabling, according to the lighting design specifications provided by the Director of Photography and Lighting Designer.
- Operate lighting consoles and systems to control intensity, color, and direction of lights during live or recorded television broadcasts.
- Collaborate closely with the production team, including Directors, Camera Operators, and Producers, to ensure lighting requirements are met and enhance the overall visual quality of the broadcast.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues related to lighting equipment, such as faulty connections or malfunctioning fixtures, during live broadcasts or recordings.
- Maintain an inventory of lighting equipment, ensuring it is properly stored, organized, and maintained.
- Assist in the selection and procurement of new lighting equipment, keeping up-to-date with industry advancements and trends.
- Follow industry safety guidelines and best practices to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others involved in the production.
- Stay updated on emerging lighting technologies and techniques, attending relevant workshops or training to enhance skills.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or certification in Lighting Technology or a related field is preferred.
- Proven work experience as a Television Lighting Technician or similar role in a broadcasting or production environment.
- In-depth knowledge of lighting equipment, such as fixtures, dimmers, control consoles, and lighting accessories commonly used in television broadcasting.
- Proficiency in operating lighting consoles, such as ETC, GrandMA, or similar systems, and understanding of lighting control protocols (e.g., DMX).
- Familiarity with lighting design principles, including color theory, intensity, and direction.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, maintaining attention to detail and ensuring high-quality lighting setups.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly and efficiently during live broadcasts or recordings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with a diverse production team.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as television broadcasting often requires a non-standard work schedule.
- Physical stamina to lift and carry heavy lighting equipment and work in various locations, including studios, stages, and outdoor settings.
